FSD Supervised will soon be available in Croatia too. Just over two weeks ago, I drove a Tesla from Ljubljana towards Malinska and left FSD Supervised on for virtually the entire journey. On the motorway, through traffic jams, past roadworks, via Pivka and Knežak. When I reached the Croatian border, that was the end of it. Tesla switched off FSD because I had entered a country where its use was not yet permitted. Apparently, that part of my journey to Krk will soon be different. Tesla announced today that it has received approval to introduce FSD Supervised in Croatia too.

Reuters reports that the feature should start becoming available to users in the near future. For me, that is far more interesting news than yet another theoretical argument about whether systems like this belong on European roads. Slovenia has already granted approval, now Croatia has too, and my fairly frequent Ljubljana to Krk route will evidently become one where FSD can be used on both sides of the border.
Croatia in summer will be an interesting test for FSD. Narrow roads, tourists looking for their apartments and braking at the last moment, motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians, blind junctions and, naturally, summer queues that sometimes seem to begin somewhere near Rijeka and end in Baška. Having tested it in Ljubljana’s urban chaos and in traffic jams on Slovenian motorways, Krk is the next fairly logical step.
What is also interesting is how FSD is spreading across Europe. Instead of one big European decision, we are getting approvals country by country. Belgium and the Netherlands have already approved it, as has Slovenia, and now Croatia, while a decision at European Union level is being pushed further away. The vote that was scheduled for October has been postponed until at least December.
It will be quite a feeling next time I cross into Croatia at Jelšane or Rupa and wait to see whether the Tesla simply carries on driving as if nothing has happened. If it does, that little sign at the border, which meant the end of FSD two weeks ago, will suddenly become far less important.
