Republicans lose US midterms as Democrats take the Senate

Americans have clearly had enough of Donald Trump. Enough of his promises, enough of his chaos, enough of his wars and enough of his conviction that the whole world must revolve around him. Republicans suffered a heavy defeat in the US midterm elections. Democrats secured a majority in the Senate, while Republicans were also losing in states where they had until recently been considered almost unbeatable. Even in Texas, where Democrat James Talarico defeated the Republican candidate.

That is a rather clear message to Donald Trump. Trump promised Americans peace, but they got a war with Iran. He promised them lower prices, but they got a more expensive life. He promised to make America great again, and now voters have shown him what they think of his running of the country.

Of course, not all Americans are against Trump. Far from it. But the results show that more and more people are tired of his politics, the constant conflicts and the fact that every day brings fresh drama. The most interesting thing of all, though, is that Trump has become a burden to the Republicans. The man who until recently was seen as their greatest electoral asset is now one of the reasons for their defeat.

With a Senate majority, Democrats will be able to curb Trump’s power far more effectively. Clearly, that is exactly what a large share of American voters want. Trump, naturally, does not see the defeat as his own. Which comes as no surprise whatsoever. Other people are always to blame for his defeats.

Perhaps Americans have finally realised that the Make America Great Again slogan does not pay bills on its own, lower prices or stop wars, and above all that they have simply had enough of Trump’s circus.
