Labin je poznan po rudarstvu, če pa si vzamete čas in se povzpnete (ali pripeljete) v stari del mesta, pa boste dobili občutek, da ste nekje v Italiji. Najprej so na tem področju živeli Iliri, kasneje je Labin postal del rimske province Ilirik, kasneje pa so mestu vladali Habsburžani – vsako obdobje je pustilo tudi sledi in sprehod po ulicah starega dela Labina odkriva ravno to. Kasneje je Labin postal rudarsko mesto v Kraljevini Italiji, vendar so rudarji organizirali upor in ustanovili Labinsko republiko. Labin ponuja čudovit razgled na Jadran, predvsem pa na Rabac. Življenje poteka “na izi”, v sezoni pa je poln turistov. Marsikoga bo stari del mesta spomnil na Motovun, ali pa Buzet – ti kraji so si zelo podobni, predvsem pa življenje v njih poteka v nižjih obratih. In verjetno je to eden izmed razlogov zakaj rad obiskujem te kraje v Istri.
